Mr William Cardno, a former employee of D.C. Thomson & Co Ltd., has died aged 80.
Born in Rattray, Mr Cardno moved to Dundee at an early age and was educated at Glebelands and Stobswell schools.
On leaving school he worked for a short time in the Eagle Jute Mills before joining D.C. Thomson & Co, Ltd, in the caseroom where he worked for nearly 50 years.
During the second world war, Mr Cardno worked as an engine fitter with the RAF and was stationed in Reykjavik, Iceland.
In 1943 he married Barbara Geddes of Edinburgh. The couple had two children, Joyce and Alan.
Mr Cardno retired in 1981. He was a keen gardener and golfer and enjoyed painting.
Mr Cardno is survived by his wife Barbara, his son and daughter and five grandchildren.
