The death has taken place in a Paisley nursing home of Dr Alexander Smith Cardno, who belonged to a well-known Fraserburgh family and who constantly renewed his associations with the Broch and district.
Deceased, who was 78 years of age, lived with his wife at 8 Hunterhill Road, Paisley. He graduated in Arts at Aberdeen University when he was 24 years of age. Six years later he took his medical degrees. He had lived in the south for many years, but, together with his wife, he was a frequent visitor to Fraserburgh.
He took a very keen interest in the problem of grass sickness in horses. His theory that grass sickness was due to the eating of hemlock roused a great deal of newspaper controversy.
Mrs Cardno is well-known as a writer of poetry.
